The impact of excess mortality on life expectancy--tables based on levels of EDR (Excess Death Rate) and rates in the U.S. decennial life tables for 1989-91 (white population).

چکیده
After a background discussion, life table construction and methodology are discussed, with references. Complete life tables are utilized for U.S. white men and women, based on the published data from birth to age 109, in the 1989-91 population. A previously published method is described for adding EDR to the population mortality rate q’ to derive a life table for a cohort with defined age, sex, race and excess mortality pattern. Tables are presented for 6x for white men and women by age, with specified constant EDR values from 0 to 0.200, or 200 per 1,000 per year. Interrelations of MR and EDR are demonstrated in a table by sex, and selected attained ages. Finally, life table data by age and duration are presented for the experience of one company, at a rating level corresponding to an MR of 200%, and at a declinable rating level for pension trust policies. These patterns of excess mortality suggest that EDR is preferable to MR as a factor to utilize in the life table calculation of 6 x, especially for structured settlement cases. Address: Richard B. In 1992, I wrote an article on a method of modifying the Decennial US Life Table to accommodate any pattern of excess mortality expressed in terms of excess death rate (EDR), for the specific purpose of calculating the reduced life expectancy, e. I believe this was the first article published in the Journal of Insurance Medicine (JIM) that dealt specifically with life expectancy as an index of ...

متن کاملEstimation of future mortality rates and life expectancy in chronic medical conditions.
Estimates of old-age mortality are necessary for the construction of life tables and computation of life expectancy, and are essential in the growing area of life insurance for the elderly. Two common assumptions are that either the excess death rate (EDR) or the relative risk (RR) stays constant with increasing age. It is known, however, that for most medical conditions the former underestimat...
